So many women are afraid of wearing RED lipstick. Whether it's from the negative stories we heard when we were kids about the type of woman who wears RED lips, or just the overwhelming confusion over which shade works best. I fell somewhere in the middle, until a company I was working for, Shiseido Cosmetics, came out with a new line of RED Lipsticks one fall. Being a manager I had to teach my team how to sell the lipsticks and so I researched shades of RED and the skin tones they worked best with. I'd like to share some of those tips with my readers to insure that you guys are sporting the right shade of RED, because we sold a heck of a lot of RED lipstick that Fall ;-)
I'll make it simple by breaking it down into three categories Fair Skin, Medium Skin, and Darker Skin and the three tones that work best for you.
Fair Skin ~ Women with Porcelain, Fair, Light Skin Tones
A. Coral REDS- This has a peachy undertone which is great for day looks
B. Matte RED Orange- This is a cool RED, which can be both for day and night.
C. Fiery REDS- Think Taylor Swift, this RED is RED hot and great for a date night or anytime you want to be noticed.
Medium Skin ~ Women with Yellow undertones on Beige, Olive and Tan Skin
A. RED'S with Pink Hue- It gives more of a pink/Red. This can be worn both day and night and really to any occasion
B. True RED- A true RED really looks best with an olive skin tone. It's like a match made in heaven but other medium skin-toned women can get away with it as well. This shade is great anywhere, anytime, BUT it must be worn with a powerful look.
C. Cranberry RED- This is a fierce RED as well. It's for those women with medium skin tone that want to be dark and sexy. And yes it can be worn in the work place.
Darker Skin ~ Women with Rich Brown, Caramel, Chocolate Skin Tones.
Blackberry RED- This is really the PERFECT RED for these skin tones. It brings warmth and richness to your lips.
Fig RED- Think burgundy fig, much richer than a brown lip but perfectly subtle for an everyday look.
Cool RED- Very warm, perfect for a Gala, or Red Carpet look. It gives a pop of color to the darker skin tones and catches people’s eye.
I hope this has helped. Leave a comment on my Red’s Blog to let me know what you think. Happy RED lipstick shopping
