Trell: Today at dailybrewconnection.com we are talking with author Kimberly Biller, author of Musings Between the Sheets. Just to give our readers a little background about Kimberly, what did you do before writing and is writing now your full-time career? Kimberly: I was a manicurist for 12 years and they all encouraged me to write my life story, so I am. I have written 5 works that are published on amazon and my memoir is within 2 weeks of publishing. It is a southern child bride memoir, titled: I Couldn’t Lay in the Bed They Made (we say lay, not lie, unless referring to a fib!) I now write full-time. Trell: When did you know that you wanted to write professionally? Kimberly: I would write poetry as a form of escape in my pre-teens and teens. I dreamed of being famous, again, my only escape from a bitter, abusive home life, so I guess it stayed with me. I picked it back up 2 years ago. Trell: What was the motivation to get you started to do that first novel? Kimberly: My motivation came after the first draft of the memoir. I had the bug after that and the more I wrote, the more I wanted to. Trell: Who or what was your inspiration to write? Kimberly: As I said in the beginning, my clients propelled me, but my past was the actual driver. My husband is also a wonderful motivator. Trell: What type of writing do you like to do? Kimberly: I am really enjoying the erotica that I write, with a twist. I want the reader to be surprised with the ending, not go duh! I knew that’s what would happen! I also want people to think! Trell: Do you have any advice for someone who wants to get out there professionally but just can’t figure how and when to take that plunge? Kimberly: Just do it! If the work isn’t quality at first, so what, it will be eventually, if writing is where you should be. I still see improvement with every book and I am on my 6th! I hope my readers will stick with me as I grow with this career! Trell: So, who is on your Reading list? Kimberly: Oh my! I love Douglas Wickard who is rather new. He wrote The Perfect Husband and his sequel is due any day A Perfect Setup. His works are thrillers, sort of like James Patterson and Jonathon Kellerman. I live crime novels, because I will never be able to write them. Patricia Cornwell has been a favorite forever! Trell: Thank you Kimberly. We just sat down with Kimberly Biller the dailybrewconnection.com’s first guest this year. She is author of: Tall Dark & Different, The Tree in the Front Yard, Musings Between The Sheets and A Threesome of Erotic Short Stories: Musings Book 2! DBC: Today we have an interview with Brian Bandell, reporter for the South Florida Business Journal (website.) He is also the author of the recently released thriller Mute. Brian Bandell is also a member of Authonomy.com http://www.authonomy.com/where they say they are a community of more than booklovers, which I agree with since I have met great writers such as Dina Rea, David Ware, and Cyrus Hood. And today is no different, I have another great writer and he is Brian Bandell. So let’s get right into it. Whether it be journalism, science-fiction, or just a story in general tell us what inspired you to want to write? Brian: I was compelled to write. As Kathryn Rusch had said “Every time you write you get better at it.” I remember when I was at the University of Miami, sitting in front of Lake Osceola when I got the idea to write Mute. Mute is actually the fourth book that I have completed and I am actually working on my fifth. DBC: So briefly, tell us about Mute. Brian: Mute is a story about isolation. A young girl is found in the Everglades not far from two murder victims. The main character Monique (Moni) is half white half black child protective services detective that has been tasked with trying to GET the girl to talk. Her input is not really accepted in the investigation the homicide detectives are only interested in if the girl talks. In this this thriller, things from Moni’s past will come back to relate and reflect a light on this case. There are also some supernatural occurrences that take place in the story. Certain animals that USUALLY don’t attack people are attacking and there is a unique bacteria in the area that is CHANGING THE LAGOON IN BIZARRE WAYS. DBC: This question is to help the unpublished such as myself, as far as getting Mute published, did you use an agent or did you do “the leg work” yourself? Brian: I tried to get an agent at first . I came close and actually MET one but he really wasn’t all that comfortable with Mute due to some of the Sci-Fi nature that was in it. At the same time I was looking for a publisher and I found Silver Leaf Books. So at that point I no longer needed an agent. DBC: I’ve been told as a writer to FOCUS ON one genre and build a fan base there. So I ask your opinion on that subject. From your emails and speaking with you, you seem vaster than just sticking with the murder thriller mystery writing. So how do you weigh in on this? Brian: On Authonomy you can classify your book in four genres but in reality a book store is only going to classify your book in one category and place it in one section of the book store. But it’s not uncommon, Dean Koontz has books that will be thrillers but will have a bit of Sci-Fi in them. Mute is a thriller with a bit of Sci-Fi in it, BUT THERE IS MORE SCI-FI AS THE STORY GOES ON.
DBC: So I have to ask, I like the idea behind the cover, was it your idea? Brian: Well for Authonomy, I needed a book cover vs. using one of their covers so I went online and started looking for images with a mute concept and I found one I liked and I used it. As I got closer to time to start publication, I wanted to get the rights to the cover so I tracked down who the photographer was and the unique thing about her, she herself is mute. She is an Australian photographer by the name El Cesana. DBC: Brian I thank you for taking the time to do this interview for me. I know I dropped the ball several times in trying to get this done. I’m thankful that you were very patient during the process. Mute is available now through Silver Leaf Books and available for purchase for your Kindle by going to the following link. http://www.amazon.com/Mute-ebook/dp/B008GHMQ60/ref=sr_1_5?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1341154061&sr=1-5&keywords=muteTo learn more about Brian, you can visit his bio page at Silver Leaf Books, http://silverleafbooks.com/Authors_Bandell.htm or his Blog at Blogspot http://brianbandell.blogspot.com/. He can also be followed on twitter @brianbandell, or you can read his business articles for the South Florida Business Journal, http://www.bizjournals.com/southflorida/. In closing, I would also like to thank Authonomy www.authonomy.com . This community of writers has helped me grow as a writer and you will also find many great talents at that site just like Brian Bandell. Terrill
T$: Today on the Daily Brew, we have author David Ware, founder of BeWare Productions. I would like to thank you for taking the time to do this interview with me. I would also like to congratulate you on publication of your book, A True Thug WillSin. So let our viewer’s get to know you. So what did you do before you started to write professionally? David: I was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan. I am the proud father of a 23 year old son, David ware Jr. My daughter Britney passed away at the age of 18 in 2004. I’m still with my high School sweetheart Marie Ware. We met in the ninth grade at Henry Ford High School in Detroit, Michigan. I always like to give her a shout-out whenever possible, for her longsuffering and endurance, when it comes to dealing with me. It takes a special kind of Woman to help balance a Spiritual warrior such as myself, so my hat goes off to her. I am an Army veteran, I served in the U.S Army from 1988-1990. I worked as warehouse shift Supervisor at a diaper manufacturer. I started as an order selector in a grocery warehouse and worked my way into a supervisory position. I’ve always been a very competitive person, so I always took on employment as a challenge. Meaning I always had to outwork the other employees. I then was blessed into a Supervisory position where I no longer had to work physically, but mentally. The reason that I brought this up, is so people can be aware of the fact that I’ve always been blessed with good jobs and still did dumb, foolish stuff as mentioned further on. I write very competitively also. I am an avid reader of urban fiction and there are a lot of good Authors in that genre. My goal is to become the very best and have the most entertaining, exciting, thrilling, page-turning-book that was ever written. Then have it go on to the big screens in a theatre near you in the near future. One of my mottos is, if you perceive it and believe it, you will therefore receive it. If it’s in God’s will. I know that if I keep this in mind as I write, I will give my fans what they paid for and then some.
T$: So tell us about your book, your main character Wilsin, could you tell us about him? David: My new book, A True Thug WillSin is about a guy named WillSin who is the truest thug ever. In order to be a thug, you must commit some sins. WillSin is just that and his entire being is revolved around committing sins. He owns a high priced brothel house called the Pleasure Palace. At the Pleasure Palace, one can have any and all of their fetishes fulfilled if they can afford it. Many of Detroit’s high ranking officials, including the Mayor frequently visit the Pleasure palace. Each of the Pleasure Palace vixens has a special and unique talent. Take the Lizard; she has a seven inch tongue. Then there’s Yum Yum, Ecstasy, and Tender. The Pleasure Palace is run by WillSin main lady named Queenbee. WillSin then becomes the leader of A ruthless and murderous drug organization called The Young Hustler’s Incorporated. The Y.H.I. and determined to take over the City of Detroit’s cocaine drug trade by any means necessary. The City of Detroit then puts together a special task-force that is determined to annihilate each and every member of the Y.H.I., including the top dog WillSin. This is easier said than done, when WillSin turns out to be the son of Satan. T$: Are there any similarities between Wilsin and your former self and if so, was that intentional in the book? David: Not directly, A True Thug WillSin is a totally fabricated fiction story. For the record I am not WillSin. I had to put that in because many people have asked me that before they read the complete book. I have taken place in many of the activities that take place in this book. There was a time in my past when I was running blind, doing the work of Satan. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I was allowed to run amuck and hang with Satan in a spiritual warfare, while being overed under the blood of God and being given a special covering with much mercy and grace. I therefore was able to see and be involved in many illegal activities, that many are dead from or incarcerated for life for. I’ve been shot three different times. Once in the head, I’ve had my left middle finger shot half off and reattached {with full usage), and I was shot with a tech-nine in the abdomen and my lungs collapsed as a result. I literally died and saw the light, but God told me that he wasn’t done with me. Although the doctors said I would be hospitalized for at least 3 months, I was out of the hospital in a week. So as you can see just from these few mentioned experiences, that God truly does love his fool’s. T$: I read your profile on Authonomy.com , In fact that’s where I originally know you from. But I read your profile about growing up in Detroit. Would you say this book is somewhat a testimonial? David: Definitely, after I became incarcerated in Florida’s Department of Corrections in 2001 for strong Armed Robbery, (I use to rob dope-boys) I ended up sharing a cell with an ex-pastor by the name of Lonny Wilcox. God used him to share much with me about what I had been experiencing prior to my incarceration. Satan turned the heat up by trying to kill me that same week. My intestine became blocked from my old gunshot wound and I couldn’t hold down any foods or liquids. The jail infirmary gave me some Pepto Bismal and sent me back to my cell and refused to see me again. After about three days and a 20-30 pound weight loss, I had my cell mate Lonnie Wilcox call my mother and tell her that if they didn’t get me some help by contacting some higher jail official, I was going to die.Now all my family lived in Detroit, except my father who lives in Louisiana. So they had to do this long distance. Somehow my father was contacted and thanks to God, at the time he was the Medical Director of Orleans Parrish, Department of Corrections. He got in touch with the Medical Director of the facility that I was housed in, which just happened to be a friend that he also attended medical school with. This Doctor came to the jail as a personal favor of my dad’s to check on me. The minute he saw me, I could see the fear and panic upon his face. He immediate ordered the infirmary staff to call me an ambulance and they took me to an outside hospital. I was told that my bowels had erupted from the blockage that my gunshot wound had created ( I had ten-feet of my intestine removed because of the bullet shrapnel tearing my insides up). Anyway, I later was told that my bowels had erupted and bacterial poison from the fecal matter was leaking into my system and had I not gotten to the hospital when I did, I would have died no doubt about it. So actually I don’t consider myself as going to prison, I call it my five year de-compressor chamber. Pretty much like deep sea divers have to use when they re-a- merge from the deep depths of the sea. During this time God revealed many spiritual things to me, making me knowledgably about what my purpose is here in this life. Things such as, why he allowed me to go through the wilderness blind and find a way out. Now that I have gone through the wilderness blind, I now know the way out, so therefore I’m able to share it with others who are still running in the same wilderness, blind as I once was. While incarcerated at this time, I use to read a book a day. Several books were urban fictions. Many were awesome reads, but they all glorified things of this World. I had no idea that I had a gift for writing. I was lying on my bunk reading a book called Dutch and from out of nowhere it was placed in my spirit to go to the canteen and get some writing paper and pens. I just knew that I was being summoned to write a book that would be used to plant spiritual seeds, while at the same time making it thrilling and enjoyable in order to capture and hold the attention of people who are walking in the shoes that I once wore blindly. By the end of that day, A True Thug Willsin was born.I dropped out of High school in the ninth grade, because I felt that the Public school system wasn’t teaching me anything, which it didn’t then and currently still doesn’t. So for me to even be able to write a book, it has to be God, of this I am sure. I want the people to know and realize that, no matter what they are going through spiritually, they don’t have to do it alone. Let go and let God guide you. Get into the Bible. A good place to start is Proverbs. There are 31 chapters in the book of proverbs. It’s no coincident that there’s 31 days in a month, so whatever day it is, read that Proverb faithfully. Allow it to soak into your soul. Proverbs teach us the basics on how to live accordingly to God’s word. Then go read Ephesians Chapter 6, verses 10-24. Learn about The Whole Armour of God.Just like any war, if you’re not equipped with the proper battle gear and artillery, you will be fighting a losing battle. The B.I.B.L.E stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth. When you purchase a new car it comes with an instruction manual. If this manual is followed and applied, the car will run smoother and have minimum breakdowns. The Bible is our instruction manual and the same thing applies to us as human beings. T$: Do you have any upcoming promotions that you would like to tell us about? David: I just self published A True Thug WillSin as of March 31st 2012, So far I have an upcoming online live interview on Street Vibe Mix Radio at svmixchat.com. I still haven’t received the date as of yet, but I will keep you updated. If anyone would like to get in touch with me, they can contact me at davidmauriceware@yahoo.com T$: With A True Thug Wilsin finished, are you currently working on anything new? David: Actually, I have two different children book series that I have also written. One is titled Purtle the Turtle, and the other is Ernie the Eagle. I wrote these books with the intention of reaching a different audience.Like A true thug WillSin, these books also have spiritual seeds planted throughout. I wanted to create a children’s book that was enjoyable and fun to read. One that a parent could read with their children at night and at the same time is essed by it. If it was left up to me, I would have been self published all the other books that I have written. Fortunately it isn’t. In my life I have learned to sit back, pray, meditate and let God decide when and where. He is opening doors and providing me with everything needed to continue on this course. I would like to thank you for allowing God to use you and your family as a vessel, not only for myself, but for those in the past and for those who will follow me in the future on this site. I wish you much success on all of your endeavors. Thank you my good friend for listening to this voice and opening up this avenue for me and my book to gain exposure. Guess who stopped by? (Yea, I stole that line.) T$: Today at dailybrewconnection.com we are talking with author Dina Rae, author of Halo of the Damned and The Last Degree. She is also a blogger at dinaraeswritestuff.blogspot.com. Just to give our readers a little background about Dina, she was a school teacher, what grade level did you teach and what subject? Dina: I taught high school gang bangers in an alternative school for five years and then junior high at-risk students for three years. I have taught every subject. I’m technically a special education teacher, but usually taught English literature and composition. I am currently laid off due to mass cut backs in Illinois. When my children were very little I also subbed. I love teaching and hope the profession opens up again. T$: When did you know that you wanted to write professionally? Dina: It was always in the back of my mind. I always dreamed of being an author, but never had the time. T$: What was the motivation to get you started to do that first novel? Dina: After my lay off, I had the time and thought of trying it, turning some lemons into lemonade. T$: Who or what was your inspiration to write? Dina: I love a good story, no matter where it comes from, such as TV, history, a novel, movie, and even gossip. I always loved books that take fact and make a novel out of it-Dan Brown is the king of this style. I admire his style and research, and try to incorporate many facts into my work. T$: Do you have any advice for someone who wants to get out there professionally but just can’t figure how and when to take that plunge? Dina: I’m still very new, not really in a position to give anyone advice. But can tell you how hard it is to get published. Lots of rewrites, queries, emails, etc. Getting published took more time and effort than writing the books! Glad I kept up with it. I have two different publishers with two different approaches. I’m learning another part of the industry. T$: Thank you Dina. We just sat down with Dina Rae the dailybrewconnection.com ‘s first guest and author of Halo of the Damned and The Last Degree. Both books are available at Amazon.com Please be sure to check it out for your Kindle. If you would like to know more about Dina feel free to email your questions to blcsdina@gmail.com.
